Most of the horizontal plates and Chinese-style straight plates are round. For example, Wang Hao, Wang Liqin, and Ma Lin all use round shots. However, some straight athletes in Japan, South Korea, North Korea and Taiwan use square-shaped "Japanese rackets." For example, Liu Chengmin in South Korea, Jin Zezhu, and Jiang Penglong in Taiwan are all using Japanese straight shots.

The characteristics of the round racket are: the center of gravity of the shot is closer to the handle, the resistance arm is short, the start is quick, the adjustment is flexible, and the control is stable. The characteristics of the square racket are: the center of gravity of the shot is far from the handle, the resistance arm is long, the acceleration is large, and the natural smashing power is greater.
